The first version of this edition was published in 2010 and was simply a text of people born under each sign, on a star containing the traditional abstract symbol each printed in the generally accepted colours associated with that sign.

         This is the third version of a Zodiac suite of prints to feature an alphabet of historically significant characters who were born under the same birth sign. On this version I have included likenesse of an alphabet of of 26 people who were born under the given sign and added the conventional figurative elements to the traditional abstract symbols.

In 1839 Robert Cornelius produced the first photographic portrait. Prior to this all images for the past 5,000 years, since their initial appearance in ancient Egypt, were handmade and predominantly sculpted, drawn, or painted. In this print I have endeavoured to continue this tradition by selecting painted portraits unless, as is the case for many actors from the silent screen era, only photographs exist.  I have limited the areas of study to the works of painters, sculptors, writers, musicians, thespians, philosophers, playwrights, and poets.

            My knowledge of the significance and meaning of each of the signs of the Zodiac is probably ill-informed, so I have relied upon the internet to suggest the general range of colours associated with each one.  The familiar symbols of each sign have been drawn by me using Adobe Illustrator, the figurative images are vector images, while the portraits are usually sections from famous paintings or drawings.
